HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Water treatment plants face many problems as they continue to adapt to solve water treatment needs. One of these problems felt across many process plants is limited space. Komax Systems continues to innovate and find a solution to all water treatment, confined space, and inline process needs.
Wafer Static Mixer
When pipeline space is limited for installing a traditional Komax triple action static mixer, the patented Komax Wafer Type Static Mixer solves space and mixing problems. The Wafer mixer installed between the two pipe flanges in the main water stream.
"The patented ultra-short wafer static mixer offers a high degree of turbulence or mixing in the downstream pipeline. Designed for injection and mixing of water treatment additives. The three vortex generating element groups are slightly smaller in area than the pipeline and contain Komax Patented Hi-Pass static mixing elements" stated Sameer Kshirsagar/Senior Applications Specialist.
Extensive studies were carried out to determine optimal design parameters of the element such as height and inclination angle, which offers short mixing length with a low-pressure loss in various flow conditions.
Chemical Addition with 1, 2, or 3 injection ports
The additive chemical introduced in the center line of the mixer on the upstream side. A discharge cone enables the injected chemical to be distributed evenly through the three vortex-inducing passages. The pressure difference between front and rear side of each element produces reversed flow that carries the chemical back toward the rear side of the mixer where intensive mixing occurs by the resulting vortical structure from the distinctive three-way counter-rotating vortex pairs.
This unique wafer mixer design reduces energy loss as more flow remains attached to the mixer walls preventing the flow separation compared to other conventional mixers. One to four chemical injectors can be offered. Pipe sizes from 4" to 60" diameter. Standard materials of construction are Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, PVC, FRP, but can also be made out of Titanium or specialty alloys if required by the process.
