White Castle to Crown NYC King and Queen of Arm Wrestling
White Castle 35th NYC Big Apple Grapple International Championships set for April 28, 2012
NEW YORK, April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) announced today that the Village Pourhouse Sports Bar located at 64 Third Avenue at 11th Street NY., NY will host the White Castle 35th Annual NYC Big Apple Grapple International arm wrestling championships on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1 p.m....Entry fees are $20 for amateurs, $30 for pros and $5 for women, which includes a free sponsor T-shirt. Competition is open to the public, age 21 years and older, and divided into right and left hand weight classes for men, two for women, in both amateur and pro categories. There is a $5 admission charge for spectators. The proud Sponsors are White Castle and Ironmind's Captain's of Crush Grippers.
Over $3,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded and first, second and third place finishers receive custom engraved gold, silver and bronze, medallions. The day's overall strongest male and female will be crowned NYC's King and Queen of Arms. Teams will also compete, grouped by Borough, state, and country, with a point tally to determine the winning team.
It is expected that 100 athletes will participate in this event, including world-class competition from Turkey, Brazil, Russia and Hungary. Among those expected to take part are the defending champions, both Brooklyn natives. Joyce Boone, from Gowanus, Brooklyn, chosen the 2011 New York State Arm Wrestler of the Year and is the current NYC Queen of Arms. The event also features defending NYC King of Arms and NY State champion Giorgi Gelashvili from Sheepshead Bay who is the best-ranked arm wrestler in New York and has beaten some of the best arm wrestlers in the world.
"The event will draw both 'hard-nosed pros' and first time beginners to compete in their respective weight class categories," said Gene Camp, founder and president of the NYAWA. Camp continued, "We expect a daylong cheering, captive audience and a contest of awesome feats of brute strength, exhausting endurance and explosive raw energy."
