
White Plains Judge Sondra M. Miller Receives Prestigious Award From the American Jewish Committee
The "Judge Learned Hand Award" is the organization's highest honor given to members of the legal community
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- McCarthy Fingar, LLP today announced that the American Jewish Committee (AJC) has awarded the Honorable Judge Sondra M. Miller with its Judge Learned Hand Award. This is the first time the AJC's Westchester Region will be presenting the award, which is the organization's most prestigious recognition of excellence bestowed upon members of the legal profession.
Judge Miller, who serves as Chief Counsel at McCarthy Fingar, has led a remarkable career that spans several decades. She was a member of Harvard Law School's first graduating class of women in 1953 and in 1990 was the first woman in the Ninth Judicial District of the New York State Supreme Court to be appointed Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department.
Judge Miller concentrates her practice in dispute resolution and has served on thousands of cases over the course of her career. In addition to heading McCarthy Fingar's Appellate Practice and Mediation & Arbitration divisions, she serves as a member of the firm's Collaborative Law, Business Litigation, and Matrimonial & Family Law groups. Her professional and community involvement is prolific and includes roles as the Director of Legal Services of the Hudson, Chair of the New York State Task Force on Family Violence, and Justice in Residence at Pace University School of Law.
Judge Miller has previously received numerous accolades including the Westchester Woman of the Year Award in 1982, the Horace Mann School Alumni Council Award for Distinguished Achievement in 1994, and the Above the Bar Award in 2011.
