Who do you DASH for? Who will you DAWDLE with this year?
More activities for you, your family and your canine partner at Animal Humane's 29th annual event
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Event organizers of Animal Humane | New Mexico's Doggie Dash & Dawdle are prepping for New Mexico's largest social event for dogs and their families. The event is Animal Humane's largest fundraiser of the year. It takes place November 6th at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque.
Registrations are now being accepted for the 5K Dash and 2-mile Dawdle. The Pet Plaza has been expanded, and will feature products and information from more than 60 pet-crazy vendors showcasing their unique businesses. Returning this year is the dog carnival Dash Bash area which includes crowd favorites such as an agility course, bobbing for hot dogs, paw print painting, a pet advice booth, canine cake walk, off-leash dog park and doggie contests.
Adoptable pets will be on-hand from Animal Humane and other rescue groups for adoption. The popular rent-a-dog booth is back for those that want to show an adoptable homeless pet a good time. New this year is live music with local acts and a variety of food trucks to satisfy race day thirst and hunger.
"A brisk walk or run with your best friend in the company of thousands of New Mexico's luckiest dogs is a great way to celebrate your pets," Animal Humane's Executive Director, Peggy Weigle said. "Doggie Dash's proceeds support our programs and services and the hundreds of dogs and cats in our care." Weigle adds that 40 percent of the proceeds go toward supporting programs for the cats that are in Animal Humane's care.
The event is essential for the continuing care of the homeless dogs and cats at Animal Humane. The organization cares for more than 5,000 pets and supports 20 programs annually. Proceeds provide funds for pet adoption, the donor-subsidized veterinary clinic and programs such as the free pet behavior helpline.
The Doggie Dash & Dawdle began in 1982 with 200 participants. It now brings together over 2,000 participants and 1,000 spectators from around the state. The presenting sponsor of the event is Albuquerque's Garcia Subaru.
