ARLINGTON, Va., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This week the first edition of Data Mining for Business Analytics: Concepts, Techniques, and Applications with JMP Pro(R) was published by Wiley. Peter Bruce, the President and Founder of Statistics.com, is one of the authors, and the book serves as the anchor for the Statistics.com Predictive Analytics and Forecasting courses which were developed by Galit Shmueli, the lead author.
This book is based on the authors' successful Data Mining for Business Analytics: Concepts, Techniques, and Applications with XLMiner(R), which first came out in 2006 and is the leading data mining text in the business school and business analyst field. The third edition of the XLMiner book came out in April, and readers may use either the Excel-based XLMiner or the web-based cloud version of XLMiner (both from Frontline Systems). It has been translated into Korean, and a South Asian English edition is also available.
JMP, a widely used statistical software tool, was created by SAS in 1989 to empower scientists and engineers to explore data visually. The JMP edition of the text covers data visualization, dimension reduction techniques, clustering, linear and logistic regression, classification and regression trees, discriminant analysis, naive Bayes, neural networks, uplift modeling, ensemble models, and time series forecasting. The lead author is Galit Shmueli, Distinguished Professor at National Tsing Hua University's Institute of Service Science (Taiwan). The co-authors are Peter Bruce, Founder and President of the Institute for Statistics Education at Statistics.com, Mia Stephens, Academic Ambassador at the JMP Division of SAS Institute, and Nitin Patel, Chairman and co-Founder of Cytel, Inc., the leader in the advanced design and analysis of clinical trials.
Both books are targeted at the business analyst who is not deep into programming, and who wants to learn about the business possibilities and challenges that can be tackled with data mining. From the start, the book was intended to provide a hands-on guide to data mining methods, in particular the focus on prediction, with realistic data, a rich group of datasets, and an invitation to the reader to get his or her hands dirty.
