Wilton Manors' New Israeli Dance Class Offers Exercise, Music, Dance and Choreographed Fun
WILTON MANORS, Fla., Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilton Manors' new Beginner Israeli Dance Class combines dance, exercise, music and choreography for a truly unique experience.
"Jack goes through the story of the songs through the dance. It's unbelievable," said Dan Zofi, originally from Israel, about his dance instructor partner Jack Germany, originally from Alabama. "Jack is the best Israeli dance Instructor in Florida and one of the best in the U.S. What he does is amazing. He lives the songs. He really does."
Both Dan and Jack lead the class, which is often described as Israeli folk dancing.
"It is Israeli folk dancing, fun exercise and a chance for people to connect. Everyone gets to see each others faces and enjoy the music," said Germany.
"It's a beginner class, so they don't have to know anything. We're starting from zero," said Zofi.
It took Zofi more than 10 years to collect his extensive music library, but he doesn't just play anything. The songs are carefully selected to cater to each individual group.
"Israeli music, much of it Middle Eastern, is from all over the world because Jewish people come from everywhere in the world. It's kind of a melting pot," said Zofi.
Much of the music is fast-paced, in languages the participants may not understand, but Zofi knows when to slow it down to keep the group going throughout the entire session.
"It's beautiful music, very striking. Each dance is pre-choreographed. It's kind of a group therapy. It's very good," said Zofi.
Starting October 2, 2014, the Beginner Israeli Dance Class will be held every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hagen Park Community Center, 2020 Wilton Drive. The cost is $7 per class.
