Winning App Developers of Pokki Challenge Receive $50,000 for Creating Awesome HTML5 Desktop Apps
Contest Rewards Web Developers for Utilizing Skills to Build Beautiful Desktop Apps
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SweetLabs Inc., the company behind Pokki, today announced the winners of the first Pokki Challenge, a contest that rewards web developers and designers for creating awesome desktop applications using HTML5.
With over 60 apps submitted in just six weeks, the Pokki judging panel selected the Mixtape, an app by Mohamed Tedjani Meftah, for the $30,000 grand prize. Chess by Jeet Singh received the $13,000 second prize, and Instagrille, a photo app by Denis Denisyuk based on the popular Instagram service, took third place with a $7,000 prize. All the winning apps, along with a number of additional apps created for the Pokki Challenge ranging from streaming video services to games and utilities can be downloaded on www.pokki.com/contest.
Pokki is a platform that brings the modern app experience to the PC by enabling developers to easily create and distribute desktop apps using standard web languages like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. Since the Pokki beta launch this summer, developers have created over a hundred Pokkies for services including Facebook, Twitter, Rdio, Instagram and many others. Pokki works on all versions of Windows, with Mac support due in the coming months.
"We created Pokki so developers could utilize the web languages they already know to create great apps that breathe new life into the desktop experience, and we've been overwhelmed by the high-quality, innovative apps that have been created by developers all over the world," said Adrian Bourke, co-founder and Vice President, Product, SweetLabs. "The judges had a very difficult task in choosing just three apps from all the great entries we received, and we're pleased that we're able to recognize and reward these developers for their work."
Entries in the Pokki Challenge were judged on variety of criteria by an all-star panel of web development and design gurus, including Braden Kowitz, Design Partner at Google Ventures; Preshit Deorukhkar, Curator of the BeautifulPixels.com website; Fontaine Shu, Lead Pokki Engineer; and Angel Leon, Open Source Coder.
