Wireless Health Hub Launches Startup Accelerator in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SoCal EED introduces the Wireless Health Hub for entrepreneurs who are developing wireless medical devices, personal health products and services and health related software applications contributing to the advancement of the wireless health industry.

Wireless Health Hub is taking a long term, complete community view of fostering successful wireless health companies and creating jobs in San Diego County.

Jim Butz, president and founder, SoCal EED said, "There are multiple organizations providing individual startup components like accelerators or incubators, however, we believe that these should be combined with other supporting elements that lead to the evolution of a sustainable startup community."

The program has three phases each supporting a different level of company growth:

• A Seed Accelerator program for first-time entrepreneurs via an intensive 90-day, industry-specific, mentorship driven program.
• Accelerator graduates or serial entrepreneurs continue inside a Business Incubator for 12-24 months while developing their products and services and remaining accessible to mentors.
• A community that facilitates a sustainable wireless health ecosystem including connections to existing wireless health companies, real estate providers, local government, educational institutions, funding sources, strategic partners and health care practitioners.

Key dates:

• Online application for the inaugural 90-day Accelerator is open now and closes Nov. 25, 2013
• Finalists will be notified by Dec. 16, 2013
• Accelerator program launches Jan. 13, 2014
• Demo Day on April 11, 2014
• Companies move to Incubator on April 14, 2014

Wireless health includes medical devices requiring FDA approval and those which do not, as well as services or personal health and fitness devices or apps.
