WITH LOVE to Hiroshima and Nagasaki: A Concert for Disarmament
An Ethical Culture Event imagining a future without nuclear weapons.
NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, May 2, 2015, 8 p.m. at New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th St, NYC, A-bomb survivors and New York City high school students will unite for an evening of music and spoken word as governments gather at the UN to review the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Many experts agree that nuclear weapons are more dangerous today than ever due to a wide variety of stressors including human error and complex systems failure and the global famine and climate chaos that would ensue should a limited use of nuclear weapons occur by accident or design. There is a growing movement for a global ban of nuclear weapons. Poets, scholars, musicians and activists from around the world will raise their voices to imagine a future without nuclear weapons and to create a culture of nuclear guardianship to care for our radioactive legacy. This event is the culmination of eight years of atomic bomb survivor testimony and disarmament education brought to approximately 30,000 students in over 100 New York City high schools by Youth Arts New York's Hibakusha Stories initiative. The evening is a co-production of The New York Society for Ethical Culture, Youth Arts New York & Peace Boat US.
