With National Preparedness Month Underway, CardioReady Asks Organizations #AreYouReady?
As companies begin to tackle post-summer vacation to-dos, CardioReady stresses the importance of putting workplace safety at the top of the list
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With Labor Day serving as the unofficial end of summer, employees are returning to offices across the country expecting to pick up on projects that were placed on the back burner due to vacations. Professionals charged with site and employee safety all have Fall "To Do" lists, which often include checking fire and other emergency preparations. CardioReady, a national leader in helping organizations to prevent fatalities from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), recommends that evaluating organizational preparedness for an SCA emergency also be a top priority, especially as September is National Preparedness Month.
"Being ready for an SCA emergency takes corporate social responsibility and organizational safety to the next level," said John Ehinger, CEO of CardioReady. "Claiming more than 92 percent of its victims, SCA is a massive health problem in the United States and a leading cause of death in the workplace. Too few companies think of SCA as a workplace incident for which to prepare until it is too late. With the full complement of companies' staff now returning from summer vacations, this is an excellent time of year for organizations to evaluate SCA preparedness and implement a comprehensive SCA preparedness plan and program."
With more than 300,000 deaths from SCA annually, preparing for this type of emergency has become a marker of an organization that recognizes the value of its workforce, partner and customer assets. Automated External Defibrillator (AED) programs – core to CardioReady's Certified Cardiac Emergency Response Offerings – have been proven to be the difference between saving a life and losing one in an SCA emergency.
Ehinger added, "Too many organizations find themselves asking 'What could we have done?' in the wake of an SCA incident. What they learn is that there is a great deal that an organization can do to be ready for such an event. It isn't just a matter of having an AED on site; it's going a step further to ensure that the AED is highly visible and accessible. It's ensuring that an AED is properly maintained and in working order. It's ensuring that employees are communicated to and properly trained. With a few simple steps and a commitment to implementing a comprehensive program, such as CardioReady Certification, organizations can be well-equipped to save a life if an SCA emergency occurs."
In an effort to further educate the public about the importance of SCA preparedness, CardioReady will be using Twitter (via @CardioReady) to ask the public #AreYouReady throughout the month of September—in recognition of National Preparedness Month. Highlighting the many ways in which Americans prepare for the "what ifs" of life, but less frequently consider preparing for SCA, CardioReady aims to facilitate a larger national discussion about the need for greater AED proliferation.
