With President Obama's Firm Commitment to Enforcing Cybersecurity, Cermetek's iController™ Plays Central Role in Securing Critical Infrastructure
MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With President Obama's Executive Order, cybersecurity for critical infrastructure becomes a priority of the federal government. Cyber intrusions to the information infrastructure in water treatment plants, the electrical grid and other sensitive sites will be taken seriously. The federal government in partnership with the owners and operators will secure these systems.
The Cermetek iController, a fully independent sensor network, plays a role in securing critical infrastructure. The iController monitors critical system parameters independent of the primary control systems. This autonomous secondary network ensures that if primary security measures fail to stop unauthorized access, any actions taken to damage the infrastructure can be quickly identified and neutralized. Each iController network supports multiple sensors monitoring parameters such as power, pressure, and temperature. The nodes are battery powered or include battery back-up power, which prevents them from being disabled if power is cut. Data from the sensors is transported to a secure web server over a dedicated link.
The Cermetek RSVP (Remote Sensor Viewing Platform) software running on their secure web servers completes the system. The RSVP software integrates the data into its database and then compares the incoming data with limits preprogrammed by the system administrator for the infrastructure site. If sensor data violates those limits, the RSVP software immediately issues alarm notifications to system operators via Email and text messages. RSVP can also issue alarms if communications with any node are lost.
Critical infrastructure systems can be protected. Both primary and secondary systems are needed to secure these systems. The Cermetek iController provides the critical secondary protection.
