TROY, Mich., Jan. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Women In Defense Michigan Chapter (WID-Michigan) recently presented the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund (FWSF) with a $10,000 check to assist the non-profit organization in its efforts to provide financial support to those who serve and protect the country, as well as their families.
The check was presented at the second annual Bocce Ball Tournament of the Primes, recently hosted by WID-Michigan at Palazzo di Bocce in Lake Orion. More than 130 people from defense prime contractors and suppliers -- including AM General, BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, Navistar and Oshkosh Defense -- took part in the Consortio Development LLC-sponsored event.
"We are pleased to assist the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund in their continued support of military men and women, and their families," said Major General Amy Courter, president of WID- Michigan and National Commander Civil Air Patrol and Consortio Development. "The thousands of dollars raised were made possible by our Tournament of the Primes participants, sponsors, challengers and attendees."
"We'd like to give a special thanks to Women In Defense Michigan Chapter for its generosity and support," said Chris Cornelius, co-founder of FWSF. "This donation will allow us to help military families with expenses, such as visiting their injured loved ones in the hospital, supporting handicapped veterans and assisting the spouses and children of fallen soldiers."
According to Major General Courter, the Navistar team won the Tournament of the Primes in the championship round against the BAE Systems team. Other event supplier teams included: ASG Renaissance; Rave Computer; Precisionwerx LLC; Dolphin Manufacturing Inc.; Motor City Stamping Inc.; and Defense Components of Detroit.
