World Book Night U.S. Announces Regional Essay Contest For A 2015 WBN E-book
Plane Tickets as Grand Prize; Ten Winners to be Included in Special Ebook
NEW YORK, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- World Book Night U.S. announced today that the ten best essays submitted by this year's volunteer givers relating their April 23 World Book Night experience will be included in a WBN e-book next year. One winner will be chosen in each of nine geographical regions and an overseas military base category.
The grand-prizewinner will receive a pair of domestic airplane tickets.
Essays should reflect the experiences of the giver and those they gave books to on April 23. Deadline for submission is May 31. Guidelines and rules are posted at: http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/resources/wbn-extras/essay-contest
Also just announced: This year's inaugural WBN proprietary ebook will be available free to all. Titled The World Book Night 2014 ebook: An Original Collection of Stories and Essays by Booksellers, Librarians, and Authors, it will be available beginning April 22 at www.eworldbooknight.org
World Book Night US Director Carl Lennertz said: "This is a supplement to our primary mission of printed books, not a change in direction. It's short, fun original material, and we wanted the givers to have this to offer anyone they meet on April 23 who might not read books on their smart phones or tablets. Our main mission remains to reach a half million people without means or access to printed books, but this is a digital extra. We also feel that the free ebook – and now the big, fun essay contest – are a great thank you to our wonderful, compassionate 27,500 volunteer givers."
The WBN ebook, powered by Livrada (www.livrada.com) and produced by the Ingram Content Group , is an original collection of ten short stories and essays by booksellers, librarians and authors who are WBN participants. The 2014 WBN ebook will be available free beginning April 22, 2014, accessible for download to any device with web browsers, as well as downloadable as a PDF to print. A list of contributors, excerpts, and an email alert sign-up are up now at www.eworldbooknight.org
