LONDON, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportbuyer.com just published a new market research report:
Worldwide Business Use Smartphone 2013-2017 Forecast Update
This IDC study presents the five-year forecast for business use smartphone shipments worldwide by operating system and user type (consumer, employee liable, and corporate liable).
As the worldwide smartphone market continues its aggressive growth in the years ahead, so does the trend toward greater business use for smartphones. The trend toward BYOD acceptance continues its ascent in enterprises throughout the world, though the corporate-liable model is still very much alive and well, with certain enterprises opting to maintain tight control over devices and furnish them directly. IDC believes that by the end of 2013, 132.3 million smartphones will end up as employee-liable devices, up a 50.3% from the 88.1 million smartphones in 2012. In the same vein, corporate-liable smartphone shipments will reach 61.4 million units in 2013, up 18.5% from the 51.8 million units in 2012. This will lead to a total of 193.7 million business use smartphone shipments in 2013, up a strong 38.5% from the 139.9 million units in 2012. Total employee-liable smartphone shipments in 2017 will reach 328.4 million units, resulting in a CAGR of 30.1% for 2012-2017. Corporate-liable smartphone shipments will reach 88 million units, resulting in a CAGR of 11.2%. Total business use smartphone shipments will reach 416.4 million units in 2017 at a CAGR of 24.4% for 2012-2017.
"As the world becomes mobile, smartphone use for business purposes rises in sync," said Ben Hoffman, research analyst with IDC's Mobile Enterprise Research team. "As employees continue to demand the ability to use the devices of their choosing, and as enterprises begin to incorporate BYOD within their organization, it is critical to ensure the right policies and strategies are in place so both sides -- employees and enterprise -- reap the benefits of leveraging employee-liable mobile devices."
