Worldwide Turf Canada Launches Canada's First Leading Edge Synthetic Turf Sports Field Reclamation Initiative

TORONTO, June 12, 2012 /CNW/ - When a synthetic turf field reaches the end of its useful life, a number of organizations are finding creative ways to reuse system components.  Worldwide Turf Canada is doing just that and is the first company in Canada to bring this state of the art green industry reclamation process to  St. Michael's College School in Toronto, ON.  The College is replacing their 112,000 sq. ft existing synthetic turf sports field with a Domo Sport Grass, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) synthetic turf field.

"This is a very leading edge innovative initiative and we are extremely excited to be the first company to utilize this field reclamation process in Canada," said Steve Halbert, President of Worldwide Turf Canada.

Through Worldwide Turf Canada's green recycling initiative, all components of the synthetic turf field can be either reused or recycled. The benefit of reclamation of resources can result in a considerable diversion in the amount of material heading to the landfill in addition to providing considerable cost savings to the customer.

Partnering with Sports Field Removal and utilizing specialized equipment, TurfMuncher™ by FieldAway™, which enables the reclamation, approximately 336,000lbs of the rubber infill at St. Michael's College School will be extracted from the existing turf, where it will be screened and cleaned, and then recycled as infill for the new field.    As for the 60,000lbs of existing synthetic turf that has reached end of life and is being replaced, Worldwide Turf Canada partners with companies such as CRM Crumb Manufacturers who use proprietary processes to recycle 100% of the turf in construction of roads.
