TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --WRS Infrastructure & Environment, Inc. d/b/a WRScompass announced today that it has been awarded a $10.8 million contract with the Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform the Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation Project, Seepage Management Test Facility in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The work includes construction of a seepage collection system composed of a drainage trench, chimney drain, and blanket drain for 4,500 linear feet along the landside toe of the Herbert Hoover Dike. Additional work includes installation of subsurface instrumentation, earthwork and sodding.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues work on Herbert Hoover Dike, the 143-mile structure surrounding Lake Okeechobee in central Florida. The Corps has made a significant investment in projects designed to reduce the risk of catastrophic failure of the aging structure. This pilot test is to be along the southern embankment of the Herbert Hoover Dike and is expected to demonstrate whether this alternative approach results in a more economical rehabilitation plan with less impact on adjacent lands while still addressing the embankment and foundation seepage and piping concerns of the Dike.
