xG Technology Awarded New Patent for Enhanced Method of Mitigating Interference in Wireless Systems
Innovation Helps Improve Communications for Public Safety and Other Users Dependent on Delivery of High-Bandwidth, Rich Data Services
SARASOTA, Fla., May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- xG Technology, Inc. ("xG" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: XGTI, XGTIW), a developer of wireless communications and spectrum sharing technologies, announced today that it has been awarded a new patent for a method of adding enhanced intelligence to a comprehensive cognitive radio-based solution for mitigating interference in wireless systems. This represents the second patent awarded to xG Technology this year for improved interference mitigation techniques. The first one was announced in an xG press release issued on May 4, 2015.
The new patent, "Interference Rejection Method Based on Multiple Sub-Band Projections" (USPTO # 8,958,280), adds a novel approach to dealing with interference that allows wireless systems to maintain high levels of performance, even in difficult transmission environments. This innovation has a direct benefit in markets that require reliable, high-quality communications in unpredictable situations, such as public safety, emergency management and the military sector.
Broadband networks are becoming an important tool of public safety organizations, as they migrate from closed, tightly-controlled Land Mobile Radio private (LMR) networks to a more blended approach that takes advantage of commercial networks to deliver voice, video and data applications. One of the key capabilities these organizations require is real-time access to high-bandwidth, media-rich data to deliver critical insights to first responders and other public safety personnel. Access to this data requires a communications system that can ensure stable transmissions in unpredictable circumstances, such as during natural disasters and other emergency scenarios. xG Technology's industry-leading suite of Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) techniques, multi-antenna technologies and patented processing algorithms (such as the ones included in this new patent) help ensure the reliability of these transmissions.
Commenting on the new patent, Paul Kolodzy, PhD (bio follows), a respected expert in the impact of interference on wireless spectrum from both a policy and practical applications perspective, said, "Access to innovative interference technologies is becoming a critical capability, as the "Internet of Things" and spectrum sharing become more prevalent. This work represents a step forward to making spectrum use more efficient and accessible, and helps provide greater spectral coexistence. It will be of special benefit to wireless planners and users in markets where spectrum availability and interference threats are real problems."
George Schmitt, CEO and Board Chairman of xG Technology, said, "With the announcement of this patent award, we have further extended our leadership in the field of interference-resistant, always-available wireless communications. Our secure, highly-reliable, comprehensive wireless broadband solution can help fundamentally improve the strategic, operational and tactical decision-making capabilities of management overseeing mission-essential operations."
