XO Group Inc. And AngelHack Partner For Exceptional Nonprofit Hackathon To Benefit Millions Of Women And Teens

NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- XO Group Inc. and AngelHack have partnered with four nonprofit organizations—Wish Upon a Wedding, New Course, Day One and Step Up Women's Network (SUWN)—to host a first of its kind hackathon to help improve the lives of women and teens around the world. Hosted at XO Group Headquarters in New York, Hack Upon a Cause: Powered by XO Group Inc. kicks off on Saturday, February 8th at 9 a.m.

Each nonprofit organization will have an opportunity to express their needs to a diversified audience of passionate developers and designers to help create sustainable technological solutions within 24 hours. Consulting with XO Group and AngelHack, each nonprofit has thoughtfully prepared a brief to present to developers. Each brief will contain a challenge that will be solved by the developers during the weekend:

• SUWN will be presenting a brief to address the lack of a "safe" forum for mentors and mentees to interact after mentoring events on a mobile platform.
• Wish Upon a Wedding will be asking for a redesign of their website. Thanks to the generous partnership with 99Designs, the redesign is well underway and will be completed over the competition.
• New Course will present multiple application ideas that include: asking women what they need; training, tools and knowledge; prioritizing areas for intervention; and raising awareness.
• Day One, a dedicated nonprofit driven to ending dating abuse and domestic violence through community education, supportive services, legal advocacy and leadership development, is seeking an app that will facilitate relatable content, a messaging platform and a safety plan.
