Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization™ Celebrates Mother's Day
20th Anniversary Race At Your Pace in Chicago's Grant Park
CHICAGO, March 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization™ will hold its 20th anniversary Y-ME Race At Your Pace fundraising event on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8th beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Chicago's Grant Park. The Y-ME Race, expected to draw over 30,000 participants, is a celebration of diversity and unity within the breast cancer community -- and an opportunity to support Y-ME's peer counseling services in a way that suits individual styles and speeds. Participants can choose to run, walk or volunteer. Register for the one mile or three mile Walk or the official timed 5K Race. Participants can be part of a Team, or register as an individual.
"No other organization in the world understands the experience of breast cancer the way we do at Y-ME," said Cindy Geoghegan, chief executive officer. "For over 30 years, we have been providing patients and their families with one-on-one peer counseling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, a service unique to any other organization. This Y-ME Race provides a tremendous opportunity for an entire community to come together and demonstrate our strength and cohesiveness, and to have a great time doing it. By participating in the Y-ME Race At Your Pace, you help ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. "
Advance registration for individuals and teams is now available at www.Y-MErace.org until May 6. All participants over the age of 14 must register and pay a $30 registration fee, which entitles them to an official Y-ME Race At Your Pace T-shirt and access to all sponsor booths and give-aways. Race Day registration will be available for $35, but participants are encouraged to take advantage of early online registration to receive their own personal fundraising page, which makes collecting donations in support of your Y-ME efforts faster and easier.
"We welcome everyone who wants to be a part of this great event," said Geoghegan, "but we really encourage you to create a Team. It makes the experience even more fun and more meaningful when you share it with your family, friends, co-workers or organization. Last year, we had nearly 1,000 Teams at the Y-ME Race, and we are hoping for even more this year."
Major sponsors of the Race At Your Pace include McDonalds, United Airlines, Bumblebee Foods and Harley-Davidson.
Y-ME encourages breast cancer patients and survivors, their family and friends and everyone who cares about this disease to join together and commemorate Mother's Day in a special way at the 20th anniversary of the Y-ME Race At Your Pace.
