Youth From Minority Groups Under-Represented In Computer Science Learn To Develop Apps At The Level the Coding Field Hackathon
Students will compete for cash prizes and receive a free Datawind Ubislate 3G Tablet with an AT&T data plan
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In October and November 2013, 250 youth from around the San Francisco Bay Area will have the opportunity to become developers of technology rather than just consumers at the Level the Coding Field Hackathon sponsored by the Kapor Center for Social Impact, Silicon Valley Bank, Datawind, AT&T and NetNanny and hosted by the Level Playing Field Institute.

The sponsors aim to encourage students to pursue courses and future careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by giving them access to mentors and training at two weekend-long competitions. Participating students will pitch their apps to a panel of judges comprising educators, technologists and venture capitalists for a chance to win hundreds of dollars in cash prizes.
Each participating student will also receive a free Datawind Ubislate 3G Tablet, courtesy of Silicon Valley Bank and three months of a 1 GB Wireless Data Plan, courtesy of AT&T.

Each Hackathon is open to 125 students in 6th - 12th grade from minority groups underrepresented in computer science. |

Saturday: Keynote from tech professionals at 9:30am. Students will be working on laptops with their respective teams throughout the day. Sunday: Starting at 3:00p.m. mobile app presentations and awards. |
| Spokespeople are available for interviews before and during the events. |
