Z Islander Bids "Bon Voyage" to Mermaid Statue

BRYAN, Texas, March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Z Islander, a leading off-campus apartment complex serving the students at Texas A&M University, today announced a public auction bidding away the iconic mermaid statue at the entrance of the property.  

The 600-pound fiberglass mermaid has been a distinguishing feature to the Z Islander's campus since opening its doors in 2009.

"Z Islander has gained momentum over the past year," said Wendy Goodrow, General Manager of Z Islander. "Beginning with our joining Campus Advantage management at the end of 2010 - we welcomed talented staff and an exciting direction to the New Year. Our bidding away the mermaid statue represents this shift for Z Islander, moving forward in a fun and positive way."

The auction was launched March 29 and concludes on Friday, April 1.

In addition to the mermaid statue, the top bidder will also receive a cruise certificate for two to a destination of their choice.  All proceeds from the auction will benefit general scholarship funds for Texas A&M University.

Students and participants are invited to celebrate with Z Islander this Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the mermaid's official send off party. The event will include live music, crawfish, drawings to win cruise certificates for two and an appearance from local radio station, Candy 95.
