CHICAGO, July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Zacks Investment Management, a leading investment firm with $3 billion in assets under management, announced today that the Zacks Small Cap Core Fund (ZSCCX) received a 5-star Morningstar RatingTM. The Fund was rated against 595 Small Cap Blend Funds for its overall risk-adjusted performance over the 3-year period ending June 30, 2014.
The Fund which invests in small capitalization stocks, seeks to build a portfolio that may perform well in diverse market conditions while balancing investment risk. The Fund seeks to out-perform the Russell 2000 Index by employing a disciplined investment approach based on the extensive research of its parent company Zacks Investment Research.
"The recent announcement of our 5-star rating is an achievement for both our fund and firm. We launched the Fund because we knew small cap companies offer the potential for significant gains and fortunately our investors were rewarded by our approach," said Mitch Zacks, Portfolio Manager of The Zacks Small Cap Core Fund. "When investors hold small cap companies through full market cycles, we are confident they will be rewarded".
The Fund was launched in June 2011, and has approximately $52 million in assets under management. The fund also has an Institutional share class and class C share available.
The funds primary investment objective is capital appreciation. The Funds strategy attempts to generate excess returns over the market by implementing a quantitative investment process to select small-cap stocks with strong potential for capital appreciation.

For each fund with at least a three-year history, Morningstar calculates a Morningstar Rating™ based on a Morningstar Risk- Adjusted Return measure that accounts for variation in a fund's monthly performance (including the effects of sales charges, loads, and redemption fees), placing more emphasis on downward variations and rewarding consistent performance. The top 10% of funds in each category receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. (Each share class is counted as a fraction of one fund within this scale and rated separately, which may cause slight variations in the distribution percentages.) The Overall Morningstar Rating for a fund is derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five- and ten-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating metrics. The Zacks Small Cap Core Fund was rated against the 595 U.S.-domiciled Small Cap Blend funds over the 3-year period ending June 30, 2014. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Morningstar Ratings shown are for No Load share class only; other classes may have different performance characteristics.
