Zafirro Announces Razor with Gold Handle and Pure Sapphire Blades

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zafirro, LLC today announced the launch of the Zafirro Gold, the company's second product. The Gold combines Zafirro's patent-pending pure sapphire blade technology with a handle centerpiece that is individually crafted out of solid 18 karat gold by an expert goldsmith. The razor is available on the company's website for $18,000.

The Zafirro Gold, like Zafirro's first product, the Iridium, was designed in Portland, Oregon and is primarily manufactured in the US using a combination of expert craftsman and some of the most advanced manufacturing processes available today, including robotic milling and high-energy, ionized particle sharpening.

In addition to vastly extended blade life, the pure white sapphire blades offer a number of advantages over conventional steel blades. They are hypoallergenic, impervious to oxidation and corrosion, and very sharp. The sapphire is sharpened using cutting-edge technology pioneered in the semiconductor industry to create an edge less than 100 atoms in width, 5,000 times smaller than the width of a hair.

The Zafirro Gold includes four years of complimentary servicing and professional cleaning, as well as re-sharpening if necessary. As the result of recent R&D advances, Zafirro announced last week it is doubling the number of years of complimentary servicing included with the Zafirro Iridium from 10 years to 20 years.

Zafirro received a great deal of media attention when it launched its flagship product, the Zafirro Iridium, in late June of this year. The Iridium was the first razor to incorporate sapphire blades, and at $100,000 was widely credited as being the most expensive razor ever made.

Zafirro intends to continue to launch additional lines of razors based on their sapphire blade technology over the next 12 months.
