The 2016 award winners were announced this past April 21st at the Edison Awards Gala in New York City, NY. There, Zahroof Valves was chosen as a Bronze award winner for its innovative Zahroof StraightFlo Valve (SFV) Valve used in reciprocating compressors. Because of its patented Modular Reed Valve design, gas flows straight through the valve with very little losses. The result is better efficiency resulting in lower fuel consumption and engine emissions. The SFV is much more reliable than conventional valves minimizing unscheduled shutdowns and resulting in less down-time and 2 – 5x greater intervals between valve related servicing of the compressor. This directly reduces the amount of gas emissions into the atmosphere due to the venting, blowdown and purging of the compressor and pipes required at every compressor service.
The Edison Award is known globally for recognizing, honoring and fostering innovation and innovators to create a positive impact in the world. The Edison Awards honor excellence in new product and service development, marketing and human-centered design and innovation. Winners were selected by a panel of senior business executives, academics and innovation professionals.
"It is an honor to be recognized among some of the global leaders in innovation," says Zahroof Mohamed, founder and President of Zahroof Valves. "The Edison Award is known for being one of the most prestigious business awards. This validates our mission of benefiting both the energy industry and the environment through our unique products."
Since its commercial availability, the StraightFlo Valve has been deployed and installed around the world in a variety of applications in all leading compressor brands such as Dresser-Rand, Gemini, Ariel and Cooper. Applications include gas production, gas gathering, gas transmission, gas injection, EOR using CO2, propane compression for refrigeration and railroad applications, CNG fueling stations and air drilling. Other industry recognitions include selection as a finalist in the 2015 Platt's Global Energy Award and Pipeline Industry Guild's 2013 winner of the Land-based Pipeline Technology award. The Modular Reed Valve technology is being used in the ARPA-E MOVE project by Oregon State University on selectively repurposing one cylinder of an automobile engine running on compressed natural gas (CNG) to be used as a compressor for home refuelling.
Benefits of the Zahroof Straightflo Valve include:
-Engine emissions and greenhouse gas reduction of up to 18%
-Fuel and power savings of up to 18% per compressor
-Increased revenue or throughput with no additional capital equipment
-Reduced service costs, both labor and material
-Increased reliability, minimizing downtime and venting, flaring or purging of gases
