
Zelda Kaplan Estate Auction July 12th, 2012 at Hutter Auction Galleries
NEW YORK, July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hutter Auction Galleries, New York's Boutique Auction Gallery, is proud to announce our Thursday, July 12th, 2012 Auction featuring select items from the Estate of Zelda Kaplan – Nonagenarian Club Queen, Fashionista, NYC Celebrity, Collector and Women's Rights Activist - who died earlier this year at the age of 95. This auction will be on exhibition Tuesday, July 10th & Wednesday, July 11th from 10am to 7pm with a special wine reception Tuesday Evening from 5pm to 8pm.
Her personal estate includes many of her signature, one-of-a-kind outfits designed by Zelda herself with fabrics sourced from her many trips abroad. Some of the most exciting wardrobe pieces include a red and black batik outfit in which she was photographed extensively (hanging with Snoop Dogg, partying at Bungalow 8) and a mustard/brown ensemble that she wore in her 2004 appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." All of the outfits were painstakingly handmade and include a jacket and skirt, with many also including a second skirt, matching shoulder bag and either a hat or hair band.
Also on the auction block are many of Zelda's accessories: vintage purses, shoes, and a large array of costume jewelry. Zelda was well known for attending countless events throughout Manhattan chronicled in her volumes of appointment books which will also be up for sale.
Zelda's true passion was as a humanitarian and advocate for women's rights throughout the continent of Africa. During her many trips to the continent she acquired a unique collection of tribal & native articles including carvings, masks and statues.
Also included in this auction is a fantastic collection of mid-century modern furniture featuring John Stuart, Tommi Parzinger, Knoll, and a large collection of modern chrome etageres. Fine Art including a signed Leroy Neiman lithograph, Alex Edan Abstract Sculptures, Silas Seandel Sculpture, and much more.
