ARLINGTON, Va., April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, American Trucking Associations' Share the Road highway safety program is taking part in the Lifesavers Conference to promote safe driving habits on the nation's highways.
"As a truck driver, events like Lifesavers are important to me because it gives us a chance to teach motorists the skills and knowledge they need to operate their vehicles safely near large trucks," said professional truck driver Ralph Garcia, ABF Freight. "We're out on the roads every day delivering the goods people need, so safety is our biggest priority."
ATA's Share the Road highway safety program is an outreach initiative designed to spread the trucking industry's safety message to all motorists. Share the Road professional truck drivers teach safe-driving lessons to the motoring public that are most critical to operating a vehicle near a tractor-trailer. Blindspots, distracted driving and keeping a safe distance in front of trucks are some of the primary themes of the program.
"The highway is my workplace and I want everybody out on the road to develop safe-driving habits that will allow all of us to get to our destinations safely," said professional truck driver Eric Flick, FedEx Freight. "We are here at Lifesavers to tell people that whether you're hauling a load of school books or a car full of kids on their way to school, the focus should be on safety at all times."
Now in its 34th year, Lifesavers Conference brings together highway safety professionals from around the world to work towards its mission of reducing the tragic toll of deaths on the nation's roadways. The conference provides an opportunity for professionals to present new highway safety initiatives or engage in dialogue to address highway safety challenges.
