CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Experts from Cars.com and sister site PickupTrucks.com put the current lineup of six off-road pickup trucks to the test to determine the very best. Contenders included the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, 2017 Nissan Titan Pro-4X, 2017 Nissan Titan XD Pro-4X, 2016 Ram 1500 Mopar Rebel, 2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon and the 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. After extensive testing, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor took the top spot. The Raptor was also recently named Best Pickup Truck of 2017 by Cars.com.
"One of the most popular trim levels for pickup trucks these days are four-wheel-drive, off-road packages," said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief. "There are impressive options available for drivers who like to take their trucks off-road and use them to their full potential. In that vein, our team of experts tested each truckmaker's top-of-the-line off-road models so we could help shoppers understand the best options available."
Testing included evaluation of interior quality, versatility, value and of course off-road capability. Additionally, trucks were tested for acceleration and braking and various truck-centric capabilities, including payload and gross vehicle weight ratings.
"To put it simply, the F-150 Raptor dominated," said Olsen. "This is the next generation sports truck. It is versatile enough to dominate low-speed trails and higher-speed loose dirt roads, plus it exhibited surprising civility on the road and has a long list of creature comforts."
