SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumer vehicle buying habits vary depending on where you reside in the United States according to 2010 sales data by TrueCar.com, the authority on new car pricing, trends and forecasts.
In 2010, eight of the top 10 vehicles sold on the east and west coast were foreign vehicles. The only two domestic models that made the top 10 were the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado large trucks. In the Midwest, buyers preferred domestic vehicles, as seven of the top 10 selling vehicles were domestic vehicles. Meanwhile, in Texas, five of the 10 ten vehicles sold were large trucks, with the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram leading the way.
"The differences in buyer behavior based on location can be dramatic," said Jesse Toprak, VP of Industry Trends and Insights at TrueCar.com. "This data shows that the car is a reflection of not just the person, but also where they live. It is fascinating to see how tastes and needs change in each region."
To illustrate the differences in car buying habits we have chosen four states from different regions of the U.S. and provided the top vehicles sold in 2010 along with Current Best Local Price and Current Discount from Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP).

** The Current Target Price in Texas is as of February 1, 2011 and based on a popular trim level of that model and is the recommended target price only
