ebm-papst's Cooling Solutions for F1 W05 Grand Prix Racing Cars

FARMINGTON, Conn., June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ebm-papst, a leading global provider of engineered air-moving products, has partnered with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ team. As a direct result of newly mandated fuel efficiency rules introduced for 2014 and future races, ebm-papst is the first major collaborator to enter Formula One. MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One teams, using cars cooled with ebm-papst fans, will race in the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas from October 31 to November 2.

For optimum racing performance, ebm-papst's new 'S Force' axial fans (4100N_H7&H8_High_Performance) are positioned on the side pods (side of the car) for cooling the radiator, and on the roll hoop (just above the drivers head) for cooling the hydraulics and electronics.  Additionally, these fans are used for cooling in the parc ferme. The performance curve of these small, portable fans matches the high back-pressure characteristics of the Mercedes system - providing 518% improvement in airflow delivery. In addition to introducing off-board cooling solutions, ebm-papst will install custom-built heat extraction and cooling solutions in Grand Prix venues later in the 2014 season. This will be of particular value at venues with challenging hot-humid environments.

MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS and ebm-papst will also work hand-in-hand on future projects to improve the energy efficiency of the team's operational facilities in Brackley, England. The companies will share expertise and best practices in areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), turbine technology and energy efficiency.
