FirstEnergy's Mobile Websites Receive Recognition from J.D. Power for Second Consecutive Year
AKRON, Ohio, May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, FirstEnergy Corp.'s (NYSE: FE) mobile-optimized website and smartphone app have been recognized among the top performers in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power.
In the 2014 Utility Website Evaluation Study, FirstEnergy received the third-highest score for overall satisfaction among customers when the company's website is viewed from a mobile device. FirstEnergy's mobile website and smartphone app for Apple® iPhone® and Android™ devices received a score of 425 out of 500 points. FirstEnergy also scored in the top three for mobile websites in last year's study.
"Several groups within the company collaborated and designed our mobile website and app to help customers easily perform transactions and get the information they need whenever and wherever it is convenient for them," said Ron Green, vice president, Customer Service. "The number of customers visiting our website via a smartphone or tablet has tripled over last year, which is why we are making it easier to manage electric accounts and report power outages using mobile tools."
The company's mobile-optimized website and app provide customers with streamlined access to important information and services related to their electric accounts. The tools offer the following functions:
- A simple power outage reporting process and access to the company's 24/7 Power Center outage maps;
- Secure and convenient account access to review and pay monthly electric bills, analyze electric usage and enroll in electronic billing;
- A click-to-call feature to reach customer service and links to the company's social media sites;
- One-click access to the full company website from each page of the mobile site.
Customers are automatically directed to the mobile website when using a smartphone to visit www.firstenergycorp.com. The smartphone app for Apple iPhone and Android devices is available for each of FirstEnergy's 10 electric operating companies. Customers can use the keyword "FirstEnergy" to locate the apps in the online store.
FirstEnergy's mobile website and smartphone app are part of a comprehensive suite of communication tools available for utility customers. In addition, customers can subscribe to email and text message alert notifications to receive billing reminders, weather alerts in advance of major storms, and updates on scheduled or extended power outages. Customers can also use two-way text messaging to report outages, request updates on restoration efforts, and make other inquiries about their electric accounts.

J.D. Power's 2014 Utility Website Evaluation Study examined the usability of desktop and mobile-optimized websites based on evaluations of the 75 largest U.S. electric and/or gas companies.
