As part of this evolution, co-founder Milo Krastev, who previously served as CFO and Head of Growth, will now focus fully on driving growth and expanding Foodsmart's footprint. His deep understanding of the business, market, and mission will continue to play a pivotal role as Foodsmart scales its foodcare platform that combines telenutrition, food-as-medicine benefits, and personalized grocery access.
"Our new leaders bring the expertise and vision needed to match the scale of the opportunity before us," said Kurt Knight, Chief Executive Officer of Foodsmart. "We're building a system that puts nutrition where it belongs—at the heart of healthcare—so that everyone, regardless of income or zip code, can access healthy food and better health."
Together, Gao, McGuire, and Schwartz bring proven track records in technology innovation, customer engagement, and financial strategy—positioning Foodsmart to expand its reach, accelerate product advancements, and deliver exceptional experiences for members, registered dietitians, partners, and providers.
Alan Gao, Chief Technology Officer, brings more than two decades of experience leading technology teams at global innovators, including Amazon and Microsoft. He previously served as CTO at PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy, where he launched and scaled the company's digital pharmacy platform to millions of users. At Foodsmart, he will lead the product and technology strategy, accelerate AI development, and expand platform integrations with health systems and partners. His expertise in building data-driven healthcare solutions will strengthen Foodsmart's mission.
"Foodsmart's mission, making personalized healthy eating affordable and accessible, is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves this as a fundamental human right," said Gao. "From building for scale in leading technology companies to addressing urgent challenges in healthcare startups, I've learned that the most impactful solutions are not just technically elegant—they solve real, everyday problems in ways that truly improve lives. I look forward to applying my experience in AI and scalable technology to make healthy eating more accessible and achievable for everyone."
Jennifer McGuire, Chief Customer Experience Officer, has more than a decade of leadership tenure in healthcare client experience, serving most recently as VP of Customer Experience at Henry Schein One and SVP of Customer Experience at Amwell. In these roles, she oversaw large-scale client relationships, streamlined internal operations, and delivered measurable engagement and satisfaction outcomes. McGuire will lead Foodsmart's Implementation, Client Development, Marketing, and Member Support functions—aligning them under a unified strategy to deliver exceptional value to health plan partners, providers, and members.
"At Foodsmart, the opportunity to bring together client success, marketing, and support around a shared vision of healthier families and communities is incredibly energizing," said McGuire. "I'm thrilled and grateful to have the opportunity to help deliver seamless, high-impact experiences to the members and partners we serve today and hope to expand in the future for those that need it most."
Ned Schwartz, Chief Financial Officer, joins Foodsmart with a unique blend of experience spanning healthcare leadership, corporate finance, growth investing, and early-stage company building. Most recently, he served as Interim CFO at Equality Health, and before that, as CFO at Stellar Health. Earlier in his career, Schwartz held investment leadership roles at Drive Capital, Norwest Venture Partners, and General Atlantic. At Foodsmart, he will lead Finance, Accounting, Revenue Cycle, and Analytics, applying his deep expertise to strengthen the company's financial strategy and operational performance.
"Throughout my career, I've been drawn to opportunities where strong business fundamentals align with a meaningful mission," said Schwartz. "Foodsmart's work to improve the health of millions—particularly underserved Medicaid members—represents exactly that kind of opportunity. I'm eager to apply data-driven insights and financial discipline to help scale the impact of foodcare nationwide."
This executive team expansion positions Foodsmart as a national leader in food-as-medicine solutions and comes at a pivotal time. The company now has more than 3 million members through partnerships with health plans, providers, and employers nationwide. It's also leading the development of the foodcare category, integrating registered dietitian care, personalized meal planning, food access, and food benefits management into healthcare delivery to improve health outcomes and reduce costs.
Recent peer-reviewed and real-world studies underscore the foodcare model's delivery of measurable outcomes in value-based care. A matched-pair claims analysis found Foodsmart delivered $43 in net savings per member per month (PMPM)—rising to $92 PMPM when medically tailored groceries were included—with savings as high as $685 PMPM for members with congestive heart failure. In partnership with Instacart, the foodcare model drove significant clinical improvements, including sustained weight loss, HbA1c reduction, and more than double the nutrition habit improvement compared to telenutrition alone. Additionally, an analysis of GLP-1 users found that members receiving GLP-1 + Foodsmart combination therapy achieved $168 PMPM in total net savings—including $43 PMPM in medical savings and $125 PMPM in pharmacy savings—compared to members on GLP-1s alone.
These findings demonstrate Foodsmart's unmatched ability to scale cost-effective, clinically impactful foodcare—amplifying the results of pharmacologic interventions and offering one of the most powerful tools available to reverse the nation's diet-related chronic disease crisis through sustainable improvements in weight, metabolic health, and chronic condition management.
