An immersive New York City celebration of all things cooking, eating, meatballs, 40th Anniversaries, and Gustaf Westman
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Sept. 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, IKEA U.S. announces the debut of IKEA House Warming, an immersive pop-up experience that showcases the brand's new range of cooking and eating essentials, Gustaf Westman's limited-edition VINTERFINT collection, and celebrates 40 years of the legendary retailer in the U.S. and of the IKEA meatball worldwide. Beginning October 2 through October 26, the public is invited to step into the heart of the home, the kitchen, and journey through the House Warming to discover simple, enjoyable, and meaningful ways of living and eating with IKEA.
"With IKEA House Warming, we wanted to go beyond showcasing our delicious food options and highlight how IKEA has a solution for every aspect of cooking and eating. We're providing an immersive experience in New York City where you can shop, taste and dream the possibilities of creating your own space at home to gather and connect around food." said Paul Anderson, Home Furnishing and Retail Design Leader at IKEA U.S. "We're demonstrating how joyful and sustainable your home can be with products that are affordable, accessible, and designed to inspire life in and around the kitchen."
The IKEA House Warming is a one-of-a-kind pop-up event that offers a Swedish twist on cooking and eating needs within the home. Guests will enter and immediately experience a journey of all things food from storing and organizing, preparing and cooking, setting and serving, to eating and cleaning. Additionally, attendees can purchase products directly from the House Warming shop and take their favorite IKEA cooking and eating essentials home.
Activities for guests at the House Warming include a daily (m)eatball happy hour, a children's scavenger hunt, a 40th anniversary photo moment, FRAKTA bag personalization, a kitchen planning studio, and a variety of kitchen demos and tastings that show how easy cooking and eating with IKEA can be.
In the pop-up and throughout the next year, IKEA will be introducing more than 200 new products connected to cooking and eating, such as dining tables, storage solutions that help prevent food waste, as well as a more versatile and smarter kitchen range.
Part of those new launches include the highly anticipated 12-piece Gustaf Westman x VINTERFINT limited-edition collection. The new collection, Westman's first-ever design partnership with a company, brings a playful, sculptural aesthetic to the seasonal offerings from IKEA. The collection reinterprets Swedish holiday traditions with a modern, inclusive, and joyful twist while honoring timeless rituals of gathering, light, and food. Products include porcelain plates and cups, candleholders, lighting, sculptural vases, and the already iconic meatball plate. The VINTERFINT x Gustaf Westman collection will be available for purchase starting October 1.
IKEA has sold over 1.4 billion food balls each year, since meatballs were introduced in 1985. Expect that number to grow as IKEA celebrates the 40th anniversary of the meatball with a new food ball, the falafel. This new offering supports the effort by IKEA to feature more plant-based options on the menu. The IKEA falafel ball will be available within select IKEA U.S. restaurants and bistros starting in January 2026.
For those IKEA Family members and customers who are unable to attend the celebration at the IKEA House Warming, IKEA U.S. will celebrate its 40th Anniversary in-store with 40 weeks of deals from September 24 through June 29, 2026. Customers can take advantage of exclusive product offers, limited-edition IKEA apparel, and special in-store events. To kick off the 40 weeks of deals, shoppers can enjoy a throwback to the 1985 (m)eatball plate for just $2.99 until October 28.
The IKEA House Warming Event, located in Union Square at 31 E 17th St, is open to the public. The event will take place from October 2-26, Thursday through Sunday, from 11AM-7PM, with Saturdays from 11-11:30AM for IKEA Family members only. No entry fees or reservation fees are required for this family-friendly activation. For more information, visit IKEA.us/NYCHouseWarming.
