Kate Hanni, Director FlyersRights.org to Release 2010 Real Air Travel Consumer Tarmac Report Card
Rep. Mike Thompson to Introduce Air Passenger Bill Of Rights Of 2011
WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kate Hanni Founder of FlyersRights.org and Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-1) will hold a press conference to introduce the Air Passenger Bill of Rights Act of 2011 this Tuesday, February 15 at 10:00am EST in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room B318. Rep. Thompson will be joined by Kate Hanni, Founder of the Coalition for an Airline Passengers Bill of Rights, who will release her group's 2010 Real Air Travel Consumer Report Card. The report provides the public with crucial information about airlines' success – or failure – managing, mitigating, and reducing excessive surface delays or long tarmac waits with the goal of dramatically increasing both transparency and accountability for commercial air carriers.
The press conference comes one day after the fourth anniversary of the infamous St. Valentine's Day ice storm of 2007, which resulted in hundreds of passengers being stranded on tarmacs without food, water, access to medical facilities, and with overflowing toilets. The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is expected to begin its' mark-up of the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill next Wednesday.
Rep. Thompson is leading the effort to include crucial passenger protections in the FAA legislation, including a "three-hour rule" that would require air carriers to offer passengers the option to deplane if 3 hours have passed on a tarmac. T & I committee recently released a bill that has been stripped of the all important passengers rights provisions, FlyersRights.org is working overtime to re-insert the Passenger Bill of Rights into the House version of the bill. The version of the bill, introduced recently, contains significant passenger protections, including the 3 Hour Rule.
