Knights of Columbus Help the Hungry with $100,000 Christmas Gift to Food Bank

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Dec. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Knights of Columbus is donating $100,000 to assist the Connecticut Food Bank in providing meals to those in need during the Christmas season.

Supreme Knight Carl Anderson will present a check for $100,000 to Nancy Carrington, CEO of the Connecticut Food Bank in New Haven at the Knights of Columbus Headquarters, One Columbus Plaza, on Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m..

"With the cost of food rising and so many people struggling with hunger in our community, the Knights of Columbus is pleased to support the wonderful work of the Connecticut Food Bank  especially as we prepare to celebrate Christmas," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. "Helping others in need here in Connecticut – and around the world – has been the mission of the Knights of Columbus for more than 130 years."

For more than a decade, the New Haven-based K of C has regularly supported the Food Bank with donations of food and funding. Earlier this year, a gift of $20,000 was made to the Food Bank prior to Thanksgiving Day.

K of C employees and volunteers have assisted Connecticut Food Bank over the years in a variety of fundraising and volunteer endeavors.

The Knights of Columbus was founded in New Haven in 1882 by Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. The K of C's 1.8 million members worldwide donated more than $170 million along with more than 70 million hours of charitable service last year alone.
