NBA Legend Dominique Wilkins Signs Strategic Marketing Agreement With Nexercise To Help Motivate Georgians To Get Fit
Former Atlanta Hawks star will bring incentive-based exercise mobile app to Georgia
ATLANTA, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by Womble Carlyle:
Imagine a mobile game that motivates people to exercise by rewarding them with financial incentives. Add in the support and influence of an NBA Hall of Famer and Nexercise has a winning combination.
Basketball legend Dominique Wilkins has signed a strategic marketing agreement with Nexercise to bring their incentive-based platform to Georgia. Nexercise is a free mobile game that allows users to earn virtual medals, discounts on healthy food and lifestyle products, and rewards for exercising.
"When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I dedicated myself to becoming a leader in helping the over 26 million diabetics and 79 million pre-diabetics in the United States to fight against this silent killer," Wilkins said in regards to what inspired him to join Nexercise. "We all know that regular exercise plays a key role in the prevention and fight against diabetes (and other deadly diseases), but we all need extra motivation to exercise like we should. Nexercise is a great example of how technology can be used to motivate people to exercise and lead healthier lives."
Last year, the 2010 edition of America's Health Rankings ranked Georgia in the bottom half in regards to health when compared with other states. Wilkins plans to use his influence to motivate Georgians to exercise with Nexercise, and he will also identify merchant partners that will provide the coupons and other rewards in the game.
Nexercise is uniquely positioned to succeed in the health and wellness market because it doesn't require users to pay a fee, it taps into people's love of social media and, best of all, the app makes exercising fun and rewarding. The app is simple to use: users download the free app, select their activity, and get moving. The more you exercise, the more experience points you earn. It's these points that increase your chances to win and allow you to compete against your friends. Deals include discounts on healthy food and lifestyle products. Free promotional items range from gift cards to free merchandise.
"Dominique is as passionate as we are about impacting people's health, which made this partnership a great choice. Diabetes is a serious problem in the U.S. that will affect one-third of Americans," said Benjamin Young, Nexercise CEO. "We aim to influence the best preventative measure – choice. We make physical activity a more fun choice, and reward users along the journey. We are excited to be working together to expand our presence in Georgia. There will be a benefit for all involved, residents and corporate partners alike."
Physical fitness and personal wellness are important issues to the Atlanta sports legend, and he is using his fame and knowledge acquired as a high-level athlete to promote health and wellness.
Last month, Wilkins and Anuschka Health Care Management Group, LLC announced a joint venture to develop, manage and own hospitality-health care and rehabilitation facilities that will bear the "Dominique Wilkins" name. The first such facility will be a 20-room private in-patient acute rehabilitation center located in the Roberts Hotel Atlanta-Marietta, 1775 Parkway Place in Marietta, GA, and will open this fall.
Attorney Bernard H. Coleman, Jr. spearheaded putting together both deals for Wilkins. Coleman heads Womble Carlyle's Atlanta-based Sports and Entertainment Practice, which facilitates endorsement deals and strategic partnerships for professional athletes and sports legends.
