Pitsco Education Releases STEM Expeditions

PITTSBURG, Kan., May 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Building upon a quarter century of success with student-centered career exploration Modules, Pitsco Education continues its innovative development of cross-curricular STEM content with the release of STEM Expeditions.

The cloud-based program promotes a combination of science inquiry, math practice, and engineering design principles through technology-based, active-learning activities that appeal to today's students regardless of their preferred learning style or their perceived aptitude.

STEM Expeditions are standards based and may be delivered as a single topic to a whole class or several topics simultaneously to student pairs through rotations. The Expeditions feature a wide range of 28 topics from robots and rockets to food safety and flight to engineering and electricity.

An Expedition begins with an Essential Question, which sets the focus and shapes students' thinking. The overall goal is to create critical thinkers and problem solvers capable of addressing real-world challenges while learning core subject matter and concepts in a hands-on, career context.

Every Expedition incorporates problem solving via the engineering design process (ask-imagine-plan-create-improve), which students detail in their logbooks as they write for reflection and documentation of the overall experience. By the end of the Expedition, students have well-documented proof to justify their answers to the Essential Question.

STEM Expeditions offer the flexibility to build in additional activities for the purpose of emphasizing and supplementing knowledge in previously tough-to-teach topics. While developed primarily around targeted NGSS and ITEEA standards, STEM Expeditions content was also created around national Math and ELA standards.
