Retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Edward L. Dyer Joins Allison Transmission, Inc. as Vice President, Military Programs

INDIANAPOLIS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Allison Transmission, Inc., the premier global provider of commercial duty automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems for On-Highway, Off-Highway, and Military vehicles announced that it has hired Edward L. (Ed) Dyer as Vice President of Military Programs. Mr. Dyer brings several decades of military and business experience to Allison.

Mr. Dyer, who served on active duty for the U.S. Army as Brigadier General and as an executive for Lockheed Martin Corp., will be responsible for Allison Transmission's Military Programs group and will share responsibility for Military Engineering with Randall R. Kirk, Vice President of Engineering. Ed reports directly to Lawrence E. Dewey, Chairman and CEO for Allison Transmission.

Mr. Dyer's most recent position was Director of Technology Integration. In that role, Mr. Dyer managed Lockheed Martin's Corporate Internal Research and Development investment program, including the integration of internally developed technologies into experimentation initiatives at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation, as well as incorporating technology development requirements identified in Advanced Concept activities into the planning cycle for Business Area and Corporate Engineering & Technology programs.

Previously, Dyer served as Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Director of Integrated Mission Analysis, a position he took on after retiring from the U.S. Army in 2001. In that role, he managed the start up and implementation of a global defense research and engineering network, enabling real time technical collaboration.

During his service with the U.S. Army, which spanned 29 years, Mr. Dyer was assigned to numerous command and staff positions including Deputy Commanding General of the 24th Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas; Chief of Crisis Action Planning for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon; Commander, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division in Fort Lewis, Washington; and Commander of the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, an assignment which included a combat tour of duty in Iraq as part of the Desert Storm campaign.

As a Captain, he also launched the ROTC program at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis.

Mr. Dyer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy (West Point) and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. He was selected to participate in post-graduate studies in National Defense and International Affairs at the U.S. Army War College. In addition, he has studied program management at the Defense Systems Management College.

Mr. Dyer currently is President of the GEN Douglas MacArthur Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, a member of the Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads USO, and an Associate Fellow of the National Defense Industrial Association.
