Entrepreneurs and Supporters Honored at September Event
WASHINGTON, July 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business" announces the winners of the 2nd annual SCORE Awards for entrepreneurial excellence and support of America's small businesses. The SCORE Awards gala will be held September 16 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, "The SCORE Awards celebrates and honors entrepreneurs who inspire us all with their success and innovation and the small business advocates who support entrepreneurship in America." Yancey adds, "These small business successes represent the success of America as the economy works to recover from recession through small business innovation and job growth."
Awards will be presented to:
- Outstanding Minority-owned Small Business: O.K. Golf LLC, Charleston, S.C.
- Outstanding Small Business Launch by a 50+ Entrepreneur: The Translation Link, Cortez, Fla.
- Outstanding Veteran-owned Small Business, sponsored by Administaff: Patriot Taxiway Industries, Lomira, Wisc.
- Outstanding Woman-owned Small Business, sponsored by Constant Contact: Just Like Family Home Care, Naples, Fla.
- Outstanding Socially Progressive Small Business, sponsored by The Office Depot Foundation: Raising Canes, Baton Rouge, La.
In addition, SCORE Awards will be given to corporate small business advocates:
- Outstanding Corporate Small Business Supporter of the Year: The Deluxe Corporation and The Deluxe Corporation Foundation, Shoreview, Minn.
- Congressional Supporters of Small Business: Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz
- The Lou Campanelli Award for Outstanding Volunteerism: Joshua Smith, president and CEO, MAXIMA Corp., Lanham, Md., and former chair of the U.S. Committee on Minority Business Development.
Each year, SCORE recognizes outstanding volunteerism on behalf of both SCORE and the small business community through its Lou Campanelli Award. The SCORE Foundation is pleased to present the 2010 Lou Campanelli Award to Joshua Smith, president and CEO, MAXIMA Corp., Lanham, Md.
Smith is an outstanding African-American entrepreneur and recognized small business voice in America. In 1989, Josh accepted an appointment by President George H.W. Bush to chair the U.S. Commission on Minority Business Development and served until 1992.
