Senators Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe Step Up the Fight for: 'NO CHILD LEFT UNBUCKLED'
Amendment added to FAA Reauthorization Bill protects infants traveling by air!
NAPA, Calif., Feb. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to 2 separate events which unfolded for Melissa Bradley and her family of 6 including an infant daughter who is 11 months old, who were removed from a United Airlines aircraft flight #75 from San Francisco to Honolulu; because their rear facing car seat which is FAA approved for use in automobiles and aircraft could not fit in the seat due to a lack of space between the row in front and the infant seat; Senators Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe have added "in cabin child safety" language in to the newly passed Senate FAA Reauthorization Bill for "No Child Left Unbuckled."
"FlyersRights.org is thrilled that Senators Boxer and Snowe have taken such a proactive stand for our children," said Kate Hanni. "These women are mothers and they understand that children should not be deprived of vital safety restraints while flying, any more than a child would be left without a car seat while driving," Kate continued.
This amendment S: 223 would require air carriers to post up front the dimensions of a child safety seat that can be used on each aircraft operated by the air carrier to enable passengers to determine which child safety seats can be used on those aircraft.
The Bradleys purchased a separate seat and brought an FAA certified/CRS (Child Restraint Seat) approved for their child. Ms. Bradley has informed FlyersRights.org that she twice attempted to protect her infant daughter on United Airlines by purchasing a seat and bringing a car seat; and twice was been denied the opportunity to protect her infant daughter.
FAA Guidelines clearly state: "No aircraft operator may prohibit a child from using an approved CRS when the parent/guardian purchases a seat for the child. If an approved CRS for which a ticket has been purchased, does not fit in a particular seat on the aircraft, the aircraft operator has the responsibility to accommodate the CRS in another seat in the same class of service."
"Clearly Senators Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe are committed to protecting those most vulnerable and least able to advocate for themselves: our children," said Melissa Bradley
