SOCMA to Confer with Lawmakers About Issues Impacting Specialty Chemical Manufacturers
Association celebrating 10th Annual Washington Fly-In
ARLINGTON, Va., April 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SOCMA members will embark on Capitol Hill April 25-26 to engage lawmakers on key issues important to their businesses and the specialty chemical industry as a part of SOCMA's 10th Annual Washington Fly-In.

"For the past 10 years, our members have faithfully made the trip to Washington, D.C., to sit down with members of Congress and their staff to express support and share concerns about how the legislation they are creating, or voting on, directly impacts their companies, as well as propose ways they can work together on issues of mutual interest. With a new Administration and Congress in place, this year is a particularly important time to introduce our members and association to new Representatives and Senators on Capitol Hill. It's their opportunity to influence the future direction of chemical policy."
SOCMA members will begin the day by holding constituent meetings with their members of Congress, where they will confer with lawmakers about issues important to their businesses, including how their companies benefit the communities and the local economy within their districts. They will also participate in thematic meetings where the dialogue will revolve around issues impacting SOCMA members and the specialty chemical industry.
To kick off the Fly-In, Congressmen John Shimkus (R-IL), Thomas Graves (R-GA) and Garret Graves (R-LA) will address SOCMA members during a reception in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Room of the U.S. Capitol on April 25.
Congressman Shimkus serves as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the Environment, which played a key role in Toxic Substances Control Act reform. Congressman Tom Graves serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, and Congressman Garret Graves serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the Committee on Natural Resources, all of which consider or oversee issues important to SOCMA members.
