Stephen J. Kaufman Named a Top 100 Lawyer in California
He's "A Consummate Professional," Says Calif. Attorney General Xavier Becerra
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaufman Legal Group Founder Stephen J. Kaufman has been named one of The Daily Journal's Top 100 Lawyers of 2018.
Kaufman was singled out for the honor in large part due to his firm's defense of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra who, with Kaufman's guidance, defeated a claim by a Republican opponent that he was ineligible to hold the office of Attorney General.
In high-stakes litigation that could have jeopardized Becerra's standing as the leading advocate for the people of California against the Trump administration's policies on health care, the environment and immigration, Kaufman successfully fought off the claim that Becerra was ineligible to serve as Attorney General because he was an inactive member of the bar while serving in Congress. The case went all the way to the California Supreme Court.
