Three BorgWarner Technologies Chosen as Finalists for the 2015 Automotive News PACE Awards

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Three BorgWarner technologies have been named finalists for the prestigious 2015 Automotive News PACE Awards:

• Engineered to withstand the high temperatures and harsh operating environments of gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engines, BorgWarner's new inverted tooth silent timing chains increase efficiency while reducing mass and improving wear. In addition to an improved link and chain design, these innovative timing chains feature a new ground-breaking pin coating that improves wear performance up to 70 percent compared with traditional pin coatings.
• The first EGR module designed specifically for gasoline engines, BorgWarner's new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) module features an EGR cooler and valve. The EGR cooler employs BorgWarner's proven hybrid tube technology with new materials and processes to resist fatigue caused by the high temperatures in gasoline engines. The compact EGR valve features a two-way drive and directly measures valve lift for superior accuracy and 25 percent faster response. The innovation helps improve fuel economy 3 – 5 percent, reduce carbon monoxide emissions 30 percent and decrease nitrogen oxide emissions 80 percent while delivering high performance in a compact package.
• BorgWarner's first-to-market front-wheel drive electronic limited-slip differential (known as front cross differential or FXD) offers a cost-effective solution for better traction and enhanced front-wheel drive (FWD) performance during cornering. FXD also improves vehicle dynamics with driving performance approaching that of all-wheel drive vehicles without the associated cost and weight. The innovative technology has enabled vehicles to break the Nurburgring record for FWD series production cars by almost ten seconds.
