ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- VanDyke Software today announced the official release of SecureCRT 6.6, a fully-featured secure terminal client for Windows® and Mac OS X®. This is the first official release of SecureCRT for the Mac OS X platform.
The addition of platform support for Mac OS X responded to growing requests for a secure terminal emulator, which doubled each year since 2005. Additionally, in a May 2010 VanDyke Software-commissioned survey, network administrators ranked "securing remote access" their top priority for four years running (since 2006). Meanwhile, in 2008, the Yankee Group released findings that 80% of senior IT execs surveyed had Macs in their organization, increasing from 47% in 2006.
Jeff P. Van Dyke, president and founder of VanDyke Software, said, "Since 1995, we have focused on providing customers with solid, reliable software that meets their needs, first with CRT™ and then SecureCRT. SecureCRT consistently receives high marks from our customers. One of my primary objectives in developing SecureCRT for Mac OS X was to deliver the same high standards of reliability and performance."
According to Chris Freeman, a network architect with Verizon Enterprise, "This application, even in its infancy, is by far the best terminal application for Mac we've found. SecureCRT is the standard for networking professionals and anyone who made the jump to the Mac, as our group did, will certainly benefit from this product."
"We worked to keep the functionality and interface similar in the Mac and Windows versions," said Maureen Jett, product director for SecureCRT at VanDyke Software. "This works especially well for network administrators and IT groups who work in both platforms, as we see with a customer like Serena Software."
Mat Banke, manager of IT infrastructure at Serena Software, Inc. said, "Serena Software helps organizations orchestrate their application development, IT, and business processes. Our infrastructure is similar to our clients' with many different platforms distributed around the world. I have my entire team using SecureCRT, with a mix of Mac and Windows users. We use SecureCRT not only for remote terminal connections to hosts around the world, but also to connect directly via serial connections to servers and other physical equipment. In fact, we've found that SecureCRT is the most stable in that scenario versus other applications. With the Mac version of SecureCRT, I have not had one single problem — even with the original beta."
VanDyke Software's SecureCRT is a secure terminal client that helps network administrators securely manage remote access and "tunnel" e-mail, web, and corporate application data. SecureCRT allows network administrators to effectively access and manage legacy applications, configure routers, maintain web servers, and perform systems maintenance.
