"You Are Here" Explores Minnesota's Stories of People, Place, and the Past

A new anthology of stories from Twin Cities PBS reveals powerful local histories that connect local landmarks to identity, culture and community.

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Twin Cities PBS (TPT) is proud to announce the premiere of "You Are Here," a new nostalgia-driven anthology series from the creators of the beloved "Lost Twin Cities" documentaries. The show premieres as a collection of three place-based stories on September 23 at 8 p.m. on TPT 2, and viewers will also be able to stream the stories as separate episodes on the PBS App.

"You Are Here" is a tour through Twin Cities place and time, spotlighting pivotal histories that shaped the region and continue to resonate today. The premiere anthology features three powerful stories that offer a sampler of the intersections between people, place and the past:

• "Wicked Minnehaha": Based on Karen Cooper's award-winning book "When Minnehaha Flowed with Whiskey," this story uncovers the bawdy, boozy early history of the state's most beloved falls, revealing how politics, policy and public image were forever altered.
• "Bdote": A sacred Dakota site situated at the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, Bdote is the spiritual center and birthplace for Dakota people. This story reclaims the erased narratives of Bde Maka Ska, Kaposia and other Dakota spaces hidden by colonization and the passage of time, guided by Dakota elders, artists and scholars.
• "West Side": In St. Paul's West Side neighborhood, the history of Mexicans and Mexican Americans reveals a community shaped by resilience, activism and strong grassroots institutions. From Our Lady of Guadalupe Church to Neighborhood House and the West Side Community Organization, these anchors—together with the energy of the national Chicano Movement—helped residents endure displacement, forge belonging, and define identity through both struggle and solidarity.

This anthology celebrates Minnesota's hidden, often overlooked and essential histories, offering new perspectives on the places and people that shaped our state.
