Another Top Five Finish for TrueCar in the World Challenge at Laguna Seca; Equipment Failure Breaks Speed on Same Track in the Mazda MX-5 Cup

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TrueCar Racing experienced sunny days and cold, foggy days through qualifying and racing days in Monterey at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Shea Holbrook, the #67 TrueCar driver competing in the Touring class of the Pirelli World Challenge took home a fourth place finish in Friday's race. Teammate Emilee Tominovich, driving the TrueCar #19 Mazda MX-5 competed in rounds three and four of the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup experiencing gearbox failure in the first race and a truncated second race due to low visibility conditions from the fog.

Holbrook, who has performed consistently within the top five at five of her six races so far this season, had an overall good experience on the storied Laguna Seca track, "For my first time at Laguna I'm extremely pleased with my overall result. We performed near 100 percent." With fickle track temperatures throughout practice, qualifying and race day, Holbrook's team was reactive, having to make quick set-up adjustments to the car. "We had a very solid run and I couldn't be happier with our Top five finish," said Holbrook. "But, I'm hungry for a podium and at least a win this year, and I'll stop at nothing to do so."

Tominovich was hindered by a blown gearbox in her first race, losing third-gear, then fourth-gear and having to finish her race in fifth-gear with reduced power and speed. Her second race on Saturday morning, May 12th was delayed for over an hour due to poor visibility and then shortened to 30-minutes from its normally scheduled 45-minute duration. Tominovich got off to a slow start and her entire CJ Wilson Racing Team was off their lap times by 1-2 seconds, indicating an overall issue with the team cars and settings. Tominovich finished 14th place and 15th place, respectively during the two races. As the youngest and most freshman driver on the TrueCar Racing Team, Tominovich is gaining valuable track experience and growing from each race she gets behind her belt. "It was really cool to race at a track with such history, said Tominovich. "Though the weekend didn't go exactly the way I wanted it to, I definitely learned a lot and am getting more and more comfortable in the car."

Tominovich races next June 8-10th at the MX-5 Cup at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Holbrook, who is ranked number six in her class after the Monterey Grand Prix, spent the days following the race testing at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Her next race is scheduled for June 22nd in Toronto, Canada.
