SAN DIEGO, May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Lytx™, Inc., the global leader in video-based driver safety technology, today announced that the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, through its implementation of the Lytx DriveCam™ Program, has been able to recognize its safest drivers in the Solid Waste Division. The City implemented the Lytx DriveCam™ Program last year to improve safety, reduce risk and reduce tax payer dollars spent on city vehicle accidents. As a result of the information provided by the DriveCam program, Corpus Christi was able to determine its safest drivers and recognize them in a special ceremony event held recently. Gabriel Doria, Michael L. Trevino, and Rene Garcia, from the City's Solid Waste Division received the award for safe driving.
"Safety in our community is essential to our operation and we're extremely proud of our three employees who received high marks for their superb job performance," said Lawrence Mikolajczyk, Solid Waste Operations Director City of Corpus Christi. "After seeing significant improvements in driver safety, we're convinced that the Lytx DriveCam Program not only works well for us, but is an essential component of a comprehensive safety plan."
Corpus Christi's Solid Waste Division has experienced outstanding results in the six-months since the implementation of the DriveCam® Program. Highlights of the program include a 63 percent improvement in seatbelt use, 28 percent reduction in traffic violations, and a 78 percent reduction in cell phone use/distracted driving, among other important improvements in driver behavior. Improvements in these behaviors lead to a significant reduction in the activities that most commonly cause collisions.
"Corpus Christi, Texas is a model City for others to follow their lead in terms of taking a proactive approach to roadway safety," said Rush Akin, Government Accounts Executive, at Lytx, Inc. "We're honored to work with Corpus Christi to not only improve driver safety, but also help the City realize significant savings with improved driving performance which helps to save tax payer dollars."
Three employees participated in the DriveCam program for the seven month period from August 2014 – February 2015 without displaying any risky driving behaviors (or coachable behaviors) while driving city owned vehicles. Each individual received a framed certificate presented by Mr. Mikolajczyk. These types of improvements are helping keep the roads safer in Corpus Christi, and around the country.
