NEW YORK, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte is joining with United Way and Teach For America to offer an expanded "Maximum Impact: Deloitte Alternative Spring Break" program for undergraduate students.
Now in its third year, Maximum Impact integrates volunteer initiatives with Deloitte's on-campus recruiting activities. Student participants work side-by-side with Deloitte professionals sharing their time and skills with communities in need, while gaining a unique and up-close view of Deloitte's people, culture, values and careers in professional services.
Two different spring break programs, co-hosted with United Way and Teach For America, will broaden the program's reach while promoting the need for traditional and skilled volunteerism, and how service can be focused to advance education.
- March 6 – 12 — Deloitte and United Way will co-host 50 students from approximately 30 colleges and universities along with 20 Deloitte professionals during a week of hands-on and skills-based volunteerism in Atlanta, Georgia. Students will work to enhance childcare centers, refurbish playgrounds for low-income youth, guide students in college exploration and promote literacy in children.
- March 14 – 18 — Deloitte and Teach For America will co-host 25 students from six colleges and universities along with 20 professionals from Deloitte and Teach For America for a week of education-centered volunteerism in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Volunteers will spend time working with schools and local students who face the challenges of educational inequity through projects that include improving campuses, developing classroom lessons and helping with class preparation work.
In addition to service projects, students will participate in leadership development and teambuilding exercises, social and networking events and tours of the communities they serve.
"Maximum Impact is an extension of Deloitte's relationship-focused approach to recruiting, which fosters the connections between our professionals and candidates who share our values," said Diane Borhani, Deloitte's U.S. campus recruiting leader. "Maximum Impact also enables students to learn about Deloitte's culture of service, which includes contributing our professional skills and knowledge to non-profit organizations like Teach For America and United Way. The generation entering the workforce places corporate responsibility and community service high on their priority list when making career decisions and those who participate in Maximum Impact get to personally experience our commitment."
Community involvement is a key element of the Deloitte talent experience, which exemplifies aspects of our culture that enrich the careers of individuals and the organization as a whole. In addition to providing an environment where its people can excel, achieve career/life fit and pursue continuous growth opportunities, Deloitte is committed to making a positive and meaningful difference in the local and global communities it serves.
"United Way is proud to once again work with Deloitte," said Randy Punley, director of corporate and media partnerships at United Way. "We share Deloitte's commitment to education and inspiring young adults to volunteer service, and we applaud them for their continued leadership in this area."
The introduction of the Maximum Impact: Teach For America program builds on an existing campus recruiting relationship between the organizations. Deloitte provides employment deferrals and other career opportunities in specific business areas to qualified applicants who join Teach For America.
"Our recruiting efforts with companies like Deloitte help us attract top talent to impact student achievement in our nation's highest-need schools," said Elissa Clapp, senior vice president of recruitment at Teach For America. "This relationship and the Maximum Impact program exemplify Deloitte's commitment to both education and to cultivating future generations of leaders in our communities."
