Lifeway Foods Responds to Nepal Earthquake by Supporting the World Food Programme, Increasing Charity Miles Sponsorship

Lifeway pledges additional $25,000 to the World Food Programme to assist in relief, humanitarian efforts

CHICAGO, April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Lifeway Foods, Inc., (NASDAQ: LWAY), the United States' leading supplier of kefir cultured dairy products, announced additional support to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide aid to victims of the earthquake that struck Nepal's capital city Katmandu on Saturday, April 25, 2015.

The support will be delivered via Lifeway's sponsorship of the award winning Charity Miles iPhone/Android app, which enables people to earn corporate sponsorships for charity while walking, running or biking. In addition to their existing financial pledge to Charity Miles, Lifeway will donate an additional 25¢ per mile toward the WFP's Nepal relief efforts in the sum of $25,000.

Saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake was the country's worst in 80 years. The initial event, coupled with Sunday's crippling aftershocks, devastated the capital city and left much of the surround countryside in shambles. The Nepalese government has declared a state of emergency and is asking the international community for humanitarian assistance. The WFP has sent specialized emergency support teams to Nepal to provide logistic, IT, food and humanitarian support.
