Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. Commitment To Boston Enhanced With New Institutional Sales Hires
NEW YORK, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. ("Oppenheimer") has announced new team members Gregory Traynor and Michael Leahy joined the firm's strategically important Institutional Sales desk in Boston. Traynor, who previously worked at RBC Capital Markets, will serve as Managing Director and Head of Sales for Oppenheimer's Boston branch. Leahy, formerly of Northcoast Securities, will provide additional strength to the sales effort in the region.
Traynor and Leahy come to Oppenheimer with deep relationships in the Boston market and strong track records of growing successful businesses over the past decade. The two new hires join Dan McBride, Managing Director - Institutional Sales, and veteran sales traders Matthew Brophy and Richard Schneider to further expand Oppenheimer's position as a leading mid-market bank in Boston.
"At a time when many firms are scaling back their commitment to Boston by reducing personnel or reassigning coverage responsibilities to New York, Oppenheimer sees tremendous value in expanding its local presence," said Lewis Silberman, Managing Director - Head of Institutional Sales at Oppenheimer. "These new hires are key to growing our business and supporting Boston's large investment community."
"We are pleased to continue the expansion of our institutional salesforce with these two experienced and highly-qualified individuals," added John Hellier, Senior Managing Director - Head of Equities for the firm. "Oppenheimer's research and corporate access products continue to be of the highest quality. Having salespeople with deep relationships is the surest way to leverage the strength of these products and provide the broadest distribution possible."
"I am thrilled to welcome Greg and Mike to the team in Boston," said Doron Barness, Managing Director and Global Head of Trading at Oppenheimer. "Adding their formidable talents to the research sales desk will perfectly complement Matt and Rich's tremendous execution capabilities."
Traynor's commitment to team management began long before his successful career in institutional sales. Considered one of the all-time best players to come out of Pennsylvania's high school ranks, Traynor was selected early-on to be a part of the High School Boys Lacrosse All American Team and went on to have a distinguished playing career at the University of Virginia. There, Traynor was selected to the All ACC Team and as a 3rd Team All American two years in a row. Traynor also served a member of three world championship teams: the 1992 US Under-19 World Champions, the 1998 USA Men's World Championship Team, and the 1999 USA World Cup Champions.
Traynor is also deeply involved in local Boston charitable organizations, hosting the "Wish Winter Classic," formerly known as the "Traynor Classic," which raises nearly $150,000 annually for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"I am excited to be leading a group of talented and dedicated professionals on Oppenheimer's Boston sales desk," commented Traynor. "Having a strong team with deep knowledge and experience is the key to success in sports and in business. With a top-notch research product behind us, we have a great opportunity for our team to thrive in the Boston community over the long-term."
Similar to Traynor, Leahy also had his beginnings on the lacrosse field. Leahy was a four-year Letterman and member of the University of Virginia's 1999 National Championship team after receiving All-American Honors for his standout lacrosse performance at National Powerhouse West Gennessee High School.
Boston area institutional sales clients are invited to meet the new team at one of Oppenheimer's upcoming industry conferences in the area:
- June 21-22, 2016: Oppenheimer 16th Annual Consumer Conference
- August 9-10, 2016: 19th Annual Technology, Internet & Communications Conference
