Republic Services Earns Top Industry Award for Recycling Systems Excellence
Winner of Solid Waste Association of North America's Gold Award
PHOENIX, July 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Republic Services (NYSE: RSG) is pleased to announce that the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has named Republic's Southern Nevada Recycling Center winner of the Gold Excellence Award in the Recycling Systems category. The award will be presented at SWANA's annual conference, WASTECON®, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Southern Nevada Recycling Center is the largest and smartest residential recycling center in North America. It is capable of processing two million pounds of recyclable material per day, or 70 tons per hour, and is expected to double recycling capacity in the area. It uses several advanced recycling technologies, including five optical sorters which use 2D and 3D technologies to make material separation decisions in milliseconds.
The facility is also home to a Learning Center that features sustainability oriented educational displays and community videos, as well as a live video stream of recycling operations. The Learning Center serves as an important community resource, helping to educate visitors of all ages on ways to become better recyclers, including the significance of ensuring recyclables are empty, clean and dry.
